Auxiliary comes up big for legion

Parrsboro - The Royal Canadian Legion Branch No. 45 has known for years that its ladies auxiliary does a tremendous amount of work for it, but found out this week just how much.

During the Remembrance Day banquet at the legion, auxiliary president Dorothy Doiron handed over a cheque for $10,000 to branch president Keith Odlin.

The funds were raised through various events the ladies auxiliary host at the legion throughout the year.

Odlin praised the ladies for the efforts put forth at every function at the legion.

You can be downstairs the aroma of the ladies here in the kitchen cooking up something good for events such as this, Odlin said during the Remembrance Day banquet. Its through these efforts that aid in this legions existence.

In an interview following the banquet, Doiron said she was stepping down as auxiliary president.

She first held the position of president in 1997, then again in 1998, after which she took a year off, becoming president again in 2000 and will remain president until the ladies hold their next meeting on Dec. 7 where they will vote in their next president.

Ive been president of the ladies auxiliary for 10 years and still plan to be involved. During the next meeting I will run for the first vice position and will offer my assistance to the legion in any way, Doiron said.

The new ladies auxiliary president will take over the position following the Dec. 7 meeting upstairs in the legion.
