Daniel(Danny) Russell Martin

It is with profound sadness and broken hearts that we announce the sudden and unexpected passing of Daniel (Danny) Russell Martin, age 62, of Springhill, NS, on Friday, February 16, 2018. Born in Springhill on May 18, 1955 he was the eldest son of the late Russell and Edith (Smith) Martin. Danny was educated in the Springhill schools and graduated from the Vocational School in 1974 with his welding diploma. However, his welding career began in the garage at home, when he was 15 years old, as he designed and welded planters and did many welding repairs for town customers. He was employed at Robb Engineering in Amherst for a short time; he then went on to start D.R. Martin’s Metal Works, his own successful welding business in Springhill, where he employed several employees. Danny was known to all as an extremely hard worker. He was honoured in 2005 by the Springhill Chamber of Commerce as Business Man of the Year. He was a member of the Springhill Ground Search and Rescue as well. Danny loved the outdoors and especially enjoyed camping with his family for many years at Five Islands. He cherished his time at his camp at Fountain Lake and cottage at Carrs Brook. He enjoyed hockey, and was Toronto Maple Leafs biggest fan, as well as baseball, four wheeling, and listening to country music. He was an avid fisherman and loved to take his many family members out fishing at Five Islands. However, nothing made Danny happier than spending time with his four precious granddaughters. He will be dearly missed by his wife of 39 years, Debby (Fields), sons Charlie (Anna Trask), Springhill; Matthew (Lindsay), Fredericton, and Josh (Andrea Wilchuck), Springhill; granddaughters, Riley, Faith, Olivia and Raine; mother-in-law Jean Fields, Springhill; brother Bill (Jo-Ann), Greenhill, NS ; sisters Jean (Rod Crowe), Springhill; Bonnie Givens, Quesnel, BC; Gale (Cleve) Canning, New Glasgow; Shelley (Ron Mitchell), Calgary; Donna (Mark Dickson), Springhill; Judy Martin, Quesnel, BC; and Lisa (Bruce) Sangster, Amherst; many nieces and nephews, and honorary grandchildren, Miyah and Parker Harrison. Danny was predeceased by his parents. Arrangements have been entrusted to A H Brown Funeral Home, 5 McFarlane St., Springhill, NS (902-597-2361) where visiting hours will take place on Thursday, February 22, 2018 from 6-9 pm. Funeral service will be held at the St. Andrews Wesley United Church on Friday, February 23, 2018 at 3 pm with Rev. Wayne McCarther officiating. Reception to follow at the Dr. Carson & Marion Murray Community Centre.
