HALIFAX – Lands and Forests and two Cumberland County fire departments were called to fight a small forest fire in Athol on Tuesday.
Bruce Nunn said the fire was discovered on a property off the Athol Road at approximately 10 a.m. by woods contractor working in the area.
Crews from Lands and Forests, including a helicopter, and the Southampton and Springhill fire departments were on scene and the fire was quickly brought under control.
It’s believed the fire damaged just over a hectare of woodland.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
Nunn said it’s important for people to check the province’s burn safe website before burning bush or lighting a campfire at https://novascotia.ca/burnsafe/ .
