SPRINGHILL – Progressive Conservative candidate for Cumberland South, Tory Rushton, is outraged that the Springhill Elementary School has not yet made it onto the McNeil Liberals’ new construction list.
Rushton said Stephen McNeil’s 2018-19 capital plan was released Tuesday and Springhill was not mentioned. He said both West End-Memorial Elementary and Junction Road Elementary are in serious disrepair and have been at the top of the Chignecto-Central Regional School Board priority list for years.
“This is incredibly disappointing for the people in Springhill and surrounding area. They have been fighting for a new elementary school for years but the Liberals continue to ignore their pleas,” said Rushton. “Children in our area are being sent to a school that is falling around them. It’s not fair.”
Rushton says he will continue to fight for a new Springhill elementary school and doesn’t want to see it announced on the eve of a by-election.
“People are frustrated and tired. I don’t blame them. They just want a new school for their children to go to and learn,” says Rushton. “We need answers as to why Springhill is still not on the list. This is unacceptable.”
