Fire chief John Verrall says the fire was extinguished with one line and the boat was then passed back into the captain’s custody.

Fishermen on the wharf Thursday morning said they believed the damage was confined to the wheelhouse, except where flames had escaped through a vent in the wheelhouse roof and charred the end of the lifeboat on top.

Verrall added that wharf and boat fires are always of particular concern because fires can be difficult to fight from the shore.
