Highway 102 crashes result in one death and one man injured

Police officer avoids injury by jumping into median

HALIFAX, NS - Halifax Police are investigating a crash and a collision that took place on Highway 102 Wednesday resulting in one death.

At 7:12 a.m. police were called after a tractor trailer, travelling outbound, went into a ditch along the highway between Lacewood Drive and Kearney Lake Road. The 57-year-old male driver, who was the only person in the vehicle, was unconscious when police arrived. He was transported by EHS to hospital where he later died.

Around 9:10 a.m., police responded to a collision involving a motor vehicle and an HRP motorcycle just before the Lacewood Drive Exit off the 102 outbound. A pickup truck struck an HRP-issued motorcycle, assigned to an officer who was on-scene providing traffic control. The male driver of the truck, who was the only person in the vehicle, was treated by EHS for non-life-threatening injuries. The Halifax Police officer narrowly avoided injury by jumping into the nearby median.
