PARRSBORO, N.S. – October can be a quiet time of year, but not in Parrsboro.

That’s when things get noisy.

The 10 Days in October Festival started Oct. 1, and runs until Oct. 10.

“We have something every day of the week, the circus, the night food fair, the artisans, the kitchen party, and the list goes on,” said Robert More, executive director of Parrsboro Creative.

The festival celebrates the creative life of Atlantic Canada.

“10 Days celebrates the artists, the town, the people and all the activities here,” added More. “We have people coming in from Oxford, Amherst, Sackville, Moncton, Maccan, Parrsboro, and Halifax.”

This year features the Halifax Circus Troupe performing on the final day of the festival.

Troupe performers have toured with Cirque du Soleil, Ringling Brothers, the Cirque Surreal in England, and have performed in India, Singapore, Jamaica, Qatar, Mexico, Hong Kong, Costa Rica, and throughout Europe, Canada and the U.S.

The 10 Days in October festival started in 2015, and has grown every year since.

“There are all kinds of artists, singers, performers, food makers and all the kinds of businesses and merchants making it an amazing festival,” said More.

The festival is one of many festivals throughout the year that transforms Parrsboro into a cultural hotbed.

“I would love to see Parrsboro become the place in Central Nova Scotia that has a reputation that pulls this area together, right from Moncton, through Oxford, Sackville, Truro, Amherst, Springhill, Parrsboro, and going into Bass River,” said More.

Just as important as highlighting artists, 10 Days in October also highlights Parrsboro.

“We’re building a cultural economy here, gradually transforming the town so it becomes an art destination but, also, a tourism destination,” said More. “When you add the hiking, the boating, the horseback riding, and kayaking down the road, it’s a nice mix.”
