OXFORD – Oxford has a new chief administrative officer.
Mayor Trish Stewart announced the hiring of Rachel Jones of Wednesday. She begins May 1.
Jones comes to Oxford from Middleton, where she has been the CAO since early 2014. Prior to that, she was the CAO for Bridgetown.
She also worked in a number of increasingly responsible positions in public administration with both the towns of Berwick and Wolfville from 1997 through 2012.
"I'm very much looking forward to working with town council, staff, and the community of Oxford and appreciate the opportunity to work collaboratively with the surrounding municipalities," Jones said in a news release.
Stewart said the town is excited to work with someone of Jones’ background and expertise.
Interim CAO Kevin Matheson will remain with Oxford on a part-time basis until Jones takes over in May.
Matheson was brought into Oxford after the town relieved former CAO Darrell White of his duties. No reason was given for the decision.
White had served as CAO for more than a decade and was also an elected town councilor in Springhill serving from 2004-08 and being re-elected in 2012 after a four-year hiatus.
