PARRSBORO, N.S. – When something is a success, you don’t change it. You do it again.

That seems to be the philosophy behind Fundy’s Parrsboro Shore Trade Fair, which will return for its second year this weekend.

“It’s an opportunity for businesses to just get the community to know who they are, what they do, and what they can offer, so when people ask what there is to do around here, everyone has the answer,” said Taylor Redmond, coordinator. “I don’t know if everybody understands how valuable that is, that the people walking around on the street know those answers.”

Those who do see the value in it are the local tourism operators, who cake out of last year’s event with plenty of positive feedback, according to Redmond. Last year was the first year for the fair, which was funded through Parrsboro’s participation in the STEP (Strategic Tourism Expansion Program) initiative with Tourism Atlantic.

One of the recommendations that came out of STEP was to continue with the trade fair, she explained, and the Municipality of Cumberland County agreed to continue with it.

This year’s event will take place on Saturday, May 27 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Parrsboro legion, with an expected 40 exhibitors taking part from along the Parrsboro shore from Masstown to River Hebert, as well as Springhill.

“It’s pretty much the same, but we’ve reached out further for exhibitors,” said Redmond. “I think it’s going to be a really good day.”

Aside from the local tourism operators on hand as exhibitors, the event will also feature a few presentations, including Parrsboro Creative’s Robert More on the upcoming Plein Air Festival, Tim Fedak or John Calder on the Parrsboro Geopark project, Bill Davison on maple farming, and a 30-minute session for exhibitors prior to the show’s opening on Trip Advisor.
