Damage was primarily contained to the second floor near the operating rooms. Staff have been working to ensure all rooms, equipment and supplies impacted by the flood are cleaned and replaced as necessary.
Air quality testing has been done and decisions on when the operating rooms will reopen will be made when those results are available.
Because of this, all surgical and endoscopy cases scheduled for the remainder of the week have been postponed. They will be rebooked as soon as possible.
The flooding has resulted in the cancellation of approximately 100 cases including general surgery, ENT, obstetrics/gynecology, ophthalmology (cataracts) and endoscopies (colonoscopies and gastro scopes).
The emergency department and other services remain open. Hospitals in Moncton and Truro are continuing to offer their support in accepting any emergency surgical cases.
Scheduled appointments and procedures in all other areas of the facility are proceeding as usual.
