HALIFAX – Tory Rushton will officially become the MLA for Cumberland South on Wednesday.
Rushton will be sworn-in at 11 a.m. during a ceremony at Province House.
The 38-year-old former Oxford fire chief was elected to the legislature during a by-election on June 19, defeating Liberal candidate Scott Lockhart, Larry Duchesne of the NDP and Green Party candidate Bruce McCulloch.
Rushton replaces former PC leader Jamie Baillie, who resigned as party leader and the MLA for Cumberland South in January.
On election night, Rushton said the Rainbow bridge outside Amherst and the promised replacement for West End-Memorial and Junction Road Elementary would be his priorities while he also pledged to help address the physician shortage that has led to frequent ER closures in Springhill and Parrsboro.
