SPRINGHILL – RCMP are on the scene of a house fire just outside Springhill.
Members of the Springhill Fire Department were called to the home on Beatons Lane just outside the former town just after 4 p.m. They were soon joined by members of the RCMP and EHS.
Several neighbours said two people lived in the older-style, two-story home located on a no-exit lane just off the Athol Road. The fire was limited to the interior of the home.
RCMP maintained a heavy presence at the scene as the fire was being extinguished and remained on scene into the night.
Neither police nor fire would comment on the incident, but speculation in the community is that it’s being treated as a crime scene.
Several calls to the RCMP’s media relations office were not returned Tuesday night.
