AMHERST – On Saturday, April 28 at 7 p.m., Music at Trinity presents the Nova Scotia Youth Orchestra in concert at Trinity-St. Stephen’s United Church in Amherst.

The NSYO, comprised of 43 young musicians, provides a high-level orchestral experience for talented full-time Nova Scotia school students. Since its founding in 1976, the orchestra has performed hundreds of concerts and has over 800 alumni worldwide. For the Amherst performance, the orchestra will be joined by 11 additional violin players from the Scotia Suzuki School of Music in Halifax.

The orchestra is conducted by Dinuk Wijeratne, award-winning composer, conductor and pianist. The New York Times has described him as “exuberantly creative.”

For this performance the orchestra will also feature a distinguished NSYO alumnus, violinist Marc Djokic. A native of Halifax, he is known for his powerful and virtuosic performances. He performs frequently as soloist with Canada’s leading orchestras and at chamber music festivals across North America.
