Cumberland County and the Cobequid Pass are being advised a tropical storm Claudette will pass South of the province today, Tuesday, making its way towards Newfoundland.

Tropical storm Claudette is southeast of Georges Banks and will move Northeast to lie near Sable Island tonight. Moderate to strong winds may brush Cape Breton Island early Wednesday. Then it is expected to move into Southern Newfoundland and dissipate as it moves across the island on Wednesday.

The latest guidance indicates that the low will pass further south of Nova Scotia than previously forecast, which will reduce impacts over the province.

For today's weather in Amherst, Environment Canada reports mainly sunny conditions. Wind becoming south 20 km/h this afternoon. High 27. UV index 8 or very high.

Overnight, a few clouds. Wind southeast 20 km/h becoming light this evening. Low 14.

For Wednesday, mainly sunny. Increasing cloudiness in the afternoon. High 26. Showers in the evening. Low of 15.

For Thursday, a mix of sun and cloud. High 23.
