Lives are defined by dates including happy moments and sad ones. Next week we'll feature a series of stories from home and around the region in a week that changed the world.

AMHERST – Our lives are defined by dates; marks on a calendar of happiness and sorrow.

A week that change our world

They record births, anniversaries and graduations; of critical games in a winning season or dance recitals of our young dreamers.

They mark days of sadness and loss, of doctor appointments and bills owed.

But, in between those pen marks are days that seem … ordinary, unblemished by anything other than the regular activities of waking up, going to work or school or play; eating and sleeping.

On those days which string our lives between bigger events, are sometimes moments that are much more than what they seem at first. They are the chance encounters with strangers who become friends; the first pedal of independence on a bike that once balanced on training wheels; or the find on the beach that turns a moment into a lasting memory.

From Aug. 11 to 17, our TC Media team of journalists including here at the Journal Pioneer and from other daily and weekly newspapers across Atlantic Canada stepped out of the council meetings and court houses and into the lives of our readers to capture these moments.

The result is a multi-media feature consisting of stories, photos and videos of these moments from across Prince Edward Island, Newfoundland and Labrador, New Brunswick and Nova Scotia.

Beginning the week of Aug. 25, on our website (www.cumberlandnewsnow.com) and in our newspapers, we will feature these stories in a project called ‘A Week That Changed Our World.’
