AMHERST – Each fall the Kidney Foundation of Canada launches one of its most important national fund-raising efforts.
Over the next few weeks the Kidney Foundation, with the help of local businesses and community organizations, will be raising money by selling various chocolate treats at $2.00 each. Volunteers will be at the entrance to Sobey’s in the coming days, to kick off the campaign and will be there on several dates thereafter, and possibly at other locations.
“We depend upon the success of our fund-raising campaigns to fund vital research projects and to provide services to support kidney patients and their families across Canada”, says Amherst Chapter Fall Campaign Chair Greg Wilson. “We encourage everyone to buy a treat and, at the same time, make a difference in the life of someone living with kidney disease”.
Nearly 48,000 Canadians currently receive treatment for chronic kidney failure, while in the order of 2.6 million others have kidney-related disorders such as high blood pressure, diabetes and urinary tract infections.
The Kidney Foundation is the only national volunteer organization dedicated to improving the health and quality of life of the people living with kidney disease. Since 1964, the Foundation has granted more than $119 million toward kidney-related research.
