“Dad wasn’t the best golfer but he had a love of the game,” said Jessica Sarson, Dwight’s daughter, after the dedication of a bench in his memory Tuesday afternoon at the Amherst Golf Club.
Jones is a former president of the Amherst Golf Club and former president of the Nova Scotia Golf Association.
“This dedication is very special because dad spent a lot of time here over the years and I spent a lot of time growing up here over the years, so it’s nice to have a memory of him on the course,” said Sarson.
Jones passed away in May 2016 following a battle with cancer.
He was active in many community organizations and was a respected coach in many sports during his life.
He was also a board member of the Cumberland Child Advocacy Association, which advocates on behalf of children and families in Cumberland County.
The organization, which also includes Cumberland Child and Youth Foundation, dedicated the bench in Jones’ memory.
Each year the foundation provides $500 bursaries to all seven high schools in Cumberland County plus one to the Nova Scotia Community College.
They also make $5,000 and $10,000 donations each year to local organizations such as the Cumberland YMCA and Empowering Beyond Barriers.
“The association was near and dear to Dwight’s heart,” said Cyril Reid, president of the Cumberland Child Advocacy Association.
