AMHERST – A family of five was displaced by a fire Saturday that damaged their bungalow in Amherst.
Amherst fire chief Greg Jones said the fire occurred at approximately 8:30 a.m. and was limited to a bedroom in the Donald Avenue home. He said the five occupants were taken to the Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre for observation for smoke inhalation and were later released.
Jones said he has completed his preliminary investigation but is not prepared to release the cause.
The woman and her four children were assisted by Canadian Red Cross volunteers with emergency lodging and meals through the weekend plus clothing purchases.
