“We’ll be at the Springhill arena for the next three years,” said Judi Richards, president of the Tantramar Kennel Club. “We run a democratic club and we put it to a vote and the club voted for Springhill for a three-year term.”
Last year was the first year the club hosted their annual show in Springhill after spending the previous 70 years at Amherst Stadium.
Richards says everybody at last years show loved the many conveniences in Springhill.
“Everybody loved the Springhill arena and the Springhill area,” said Richards. “The exhibitors loved the restaurants and the grocery store, and they liked the fact that they didn’t even have to drive to where they want to go. They can walk. They loved it.”
They also loved walking their dogs on the walking trails behind the arena.
“It’s a perfect location,” said Richards.
Over 400 entries will take part in the two-day event beginning Saturday.
“There should be 130 per show, that’s 260 per day, so there will be more than 400 entries over the two days.”
Richards says the French Bulldog is currently a very popular breed of dog.
“You see them on TV all the time in commercials,” said Richards. “The Mr. Clean commercial has a big French Bulldog, and The Rock (actor Dwayne Johnson) has two of them.”
She says they’re an addiction.
“People buy one and they have to have a second one.”
She says they are very friendly.
“They’re a bull breed so they can be stubborn but they love to sit and they love personal contact,” said Richards. “I think they were bred to be companion dogs and they seem to fit in really well with people.”
Judging starts both Saturday and Sunday at 8 a.m. and runs all day long.
