AMHERST – It was not business as usual at the Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre early Tuesday.
A spokesperson with the Nova Scotia Health Authority confirmed the hospital was in a “controlled lockdown” for five hours as Amherst Police dealt with an unidentified situation at the health-care centre.
“The controlled lockdown has since been lifted,” Kristen Lipscombe said. “It ran from 6 to 11 a.m. and there was security at both entrances, but no patient appointments were affected.”
Lipscombe could not talk about what led to the lockdown, referring it to the Amherst Police Department.
Police are not saying anything about what brought about the lockdown.
A controlled lockdown is put in place when there are potential threats, violent behaviour or surge of patients or others that could negatively affect operations and the safety of patients.
Under a controlled lockdown security is assigned to entrances and each person attempting to enter or exit is screened.
