Biker Bash preparations nearing completion

“Preparations are coming along pretty good. There’s still a lot of finishing touches to complete before we’re ready to go,” Mike Johnson of the Defenders Motorcycle Club said. “It’s like building a house. The walls are up and gyprock is in place. It’s just the little things, the finishing work that has to be done.”
Motorcycle enthusiasts from across the Maritimes are expected in Amherst beginning Friday, July 21 and running through Sunday, July 23.
The festival’s venue this year is the Amherst Town Square Mall and the NSCC – Amherst parking lots.
“Things are looking very good in terms of registration,” Peter Rushton said. “We have approximately 170 bikes pre-registered, which is something we didn’t do last year. Last year, we had 230 bikes total, so we're in very good shape.”
There are numerous events scheduled for motorcyclists and spectators including performances by the Hub City Stunters on opening night and the Pure Adrenaline Stunt Riders on Saturday.
Saturday’s events feature the Tim Hortons Blitz the Bridge to Prince Edward Island as well as the Defenders For Change Poker Run and the Bordertown Toys for Tots that’s sponsored by McDonald’s.
Crossroads Cycles & Sleds is joining forces with the Amherst Artisans Gallery to host a show and shine on Saturday with numerous prizes for vintage and classic bikes.
Other highlights include a concert featuring C4, Ray Oliver and Rock Bottom. There’ll be a free concert Saturday afternoon featuring the Record Breakers, who are also in concert at Trinity-St. Stephen’s United Church that evening.
Sunday will feature the Blessing of the Bikes and the Biker Bash finale.
