Amherst restaurant evacuated after bear spray released

AMHERST, N.S. – A downtown Amherst business was temporarily evacuated early Wednesday due to the deployment of bear spray.

Police received a complaint just after 10 a.m. about a fight between two women at Tim Hortons on the corner of Church and Victoria Street. During the incident, a man allegedly sprayed another man with bear repellant.

Police received a complaint just after 10 a.m. about a fight between two women at Tim Hortons on the corner of Church and Victoria Street. During the incident, a man allegedly sprayed another man with bear repellant.

Two people complained of the effects of the spray and were treated by EHS at the Amherst Police Department.

A 34-year-old man and a 24-year-old woman were arrested. The man is facing several charges including assault with a weapon, breach of a weapons prohibition, mischief and charges under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act.

The woman is facing assault charges.
