AMHERST – Amherst’s Recreation Department in partnership with SOAR Community Health Board and Amherst Youth Town Council is hosting the fourth Family First New Year’s Eve Celebration at the Amherst Stadium on Sunday from 6 to 8 p.m.

The event is for all ages, it’s free and alcohol and tobacco-free.

Activities include horse and wagon rides in the stadium parking lot, ice painting, skating, walking track contests, live music, a family photo booth, warm treats and the grand finale at 8 p.m., featuring a one-of-a-kind fireworks show from the stadium roof.

The fireworks display, to be viewed outside along Church Street, is called a “consumer show” and will be set off by trained technicians from Fireworks FX.

People are asked to bring a donation for the ARHS food pantry.

Members of Amherst Police and Fire Departments will be on site during the entire fireworks show.

To allow space to watch the fireworks, a portion of Church Street will also be closed 4:30 to 8:30 p.m. from Wellington to Townshend Street and Senator Street. Streets will be open to local traffic. The stadium parking lot must be cleared by 5 p.m. to allow for setup of the fireworks. There will be plenty of parking on side streets and behind the stadium.
