Amherst men facing drug charges following search of two residences

AMHERST – Cumberland County’s street crime enforcement unit has charged a pair of Amherst men with drug offences and another man with break, enter and theft.

Members of the street crime unit, with assistance from the Amherst Police Department, searched homes on Edgewood Avenue and Prince Arthur Street and seized quantities of methamphetamine, cocaine, marihuana, cash and drug paraphernalia during the search. In total, three men were arrested.

Douglas Anthony Montrose, 47, of Amherst, is charged with possession of methamphetamine for the purpose of trafficking, possession of marijuana for the purpose of trafficking and trafficking in methamphetamine.

Montrose was held for court and has since been released on bail with conditions. He is scheduled to appear in Amherst provincial court on Feb. 5.

Jeffrey Paul Richards, 52, of Amherst, is charged with possession of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking, possession of methamphetamine for the purpose of trafficking, possession of marijuana for the purpose of trafficking and production of marijuana.

Richards appeared in court and has been released from custody with conditions. He will return to court on Feb. 4.

A third man, Jason Leroy LeBlanc, 41, of Amherst was charged with break, enter and theft and remains in custody. He will appear in court at a later date.
