AMHERST– Amherst is preparing to install the third of four pressure reducing valve chambers as part of Amherst’s $5.5-million reservoir replacement project.
In preparation for putting in the chamber on Robert Angus Drive, town crews will install new water valves in the area overnight on Nov. 27.
It will be necessary to turn the water in the area off during the installation, which is scheduled to begin at 10 p.m. and be completed by 5 a.m.
Once service is restored, businesses are advised to run their cold water taps for about 15 minutes in order to eliminate impurities.
The installation of the new chamber is scheduled to take place later in the week, with plans being finalized by Maritech Construction Inc. on Nov. 27. Additional information on potential traffic impacts will be available at that time.
The first chamber was installed on Church Street. Work on that part of the project wrapped up on Nov. 9.
The second chamber was installed on Willow Street. Work on that project will be completed next week when paving of the road between Oceanview Drive and Townshend Avenue is performed by Costin Paving and Contracting Ltd.
A specific date for the paving has not been set, but it is expected to take place sometime between Nov. 27 and Nov. 30. When it is done, the paving is expected to take about two hours to complete.
The final chamber will be installed near the intersection of MacDonald Road and Highway 204.
