OXFORD, N.S. – A community build day will be hosted here on Saturday, May 13, and you are invited.
Habitat for Humanity Nova Scotia is continuing its efforts to complete a second home in Oxford on Little River Road, while the foundation has already been poured for the third. Saturday’s work will be on the second home.
We want to get it finished and then turn our attention to the third home.
Deborah Page, Habitat for Humanity Nova Scotia
“What gets done will depend on the weather, and where we are at in construction,” said Deborah Page, director of marketing and retail operations for Habitat for Humanity Nova Scotia. “It might be construction of the front deck, and we’re also working on polywrap of the first floor entry and exterior walls, and drywall and ceiling installation for the interior.”
The Habitat team is looking for up to 25 volunteers for Saturday, and Page emphasized that no experience is required. Leaders will be on site to guide the work. Volunteers just need to be 16 or older.
Safety equipment will also be available on site, which is why they are asking volunteers to pre-register for the day, so they can have enough equipment in the proper size available. Pre-registration can be done by visiting habitatns.ca/volunteer or by emailing email@example.com.
“We want to get the second home finished as soon as possible,” said Page. “It will be one of 150 habitat homes being built across Canada, two in Nova Scotia. We want to get it finished and then turn our attention to the third home.”
The work will take place from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Even those who cannot be a part of the build day are invited to a barbecue on the site at around noon, where they can learn more about the program.
