AMHERST – The Cumberland Health Authority has received full accreditation status and achieved a 96.8 per cent compliance rate with more than 2,800 Accreditation Canada standards following the completion of its 2014 survey.
“We are pleased with the results of our survey which clearly indicate that safe, quality patient care is being provided across the CHA,” said authority CEO Bruce Quigley. “This award provides a true validation of the excellent work that staff do every day in meeting the health care needs of our communities.”
The Accreditation Canada survey team – made up of health care providers and administrators from across the country – visited the health authority in early May to do a thorough review of the standards as part of a continuous quality improvement process that occurs every three years.
The standards look at population health and wellness, accessibility, safety, worklife, client-centered services, continuity of services, effectiveness and efficiency. In addition to visiting all facilities across the district, the team interviewed staff, doctors, patients/clients and community partners.
In its report, the survey team was very complimentary of the care being provided and noted that patients and their families indicated their satisfaction with the care they had received. Among many other positive comments, the final report recognized staff commitment and teamwork, the great work underway related to medication reconciliation and the organization’s excellent collaboration with its external partners. Also noted were the district’s many successes since the last survey in 2011 including the introduction of the country’s first collaborative emergency centers.
As part of separate submissions to Accreditation Canada, the CHA has been recognized for innovative leading practices for service delivery and health promotion. Information on leading practices is shared by AC and may be utilized in other districts across the country.
The Cumberland Health Authority is responsible for delivering health care services to the approximately 31,000 residents of Cumberland County as well as many citizens from southeastern New Brunswick who access care.
