An Amherst man is in custody following a pair of violent assaults in Amherst on Wednesday.
AMHERST – A 26-year-old Amherst man is facing several charges following the violent assault of a woman on Wednesday.
The man was taken into custody just after 5:30 p.m. in relation to an assault with a weapon on a female earlier in the day and an aggravated assault on a male in the afternoon.
He also faces charges of possessing a weapon, using an imitation firearm, uttering threats and breaching his probation.
The incident Wednesday morning occurred at approximately 2:48 a.m. outside a residence on Prince Arthur Street. The female victim was taken to the Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre after being struck on the head with a pipe.
She was treated for head injuries and released.
The incident in the afternoon occurred at approximately 3:59 pm. in the a parking lot off Prince Arthur Street. The male victim was involved in an altercation with the other male and police believe the victim received a stab wound to his side during the altercation.
The victim was taken to the hospital, where he was admitted for his injuries.
