SPRINGHILL – The Town of Springhill is calling on government to help steer the ship while it navigates unchartered waters.

During its regular monthly meeting, Deputy Mayor Darrel White presented a motion to call on Nova Scotia’s Dept. of Municipal Affairs for funding an interim Chief Administrative Officer.

“At the end of June our agreement with the Town of Amherst, who has provided the assistance of [CAO Greg] Herrett, comes to an end,” White said.

Herrett has been contracted to Springhill under two memorandums of understanding now while Springhill’s CAO Don Tabor has been off for an indefinite period. That absence began before the town announced its seeking dissolution in March.

Moving forward, the town can’t overtax Herrett given the scope of work needed during the dissolution process, White said, and acting CAO John Boyle is also the town’s director of finance, whose undertaken a significant workload since the decision to dissolve the town.

Council approved the motion to send a letter of request for funding from the Dept. of Municipal Affairs for the interim CAO.
