TATAMAGOUCHE – One of the stars of The Trailer Park Boys series is to direct a feature film being filmed in and around Tatamagouche.

Cory Bowles, originally from Truro, currently on the set of CBC's Moblees  - a children's TV series - has joined writer and producer Stuart Cresswell from River John-based Simple Films on the team of The only game in town, a comedy coming-of-age story that will have a cast of mainly young people.

"Our intention is to find a core group of youngsters - preferably from our north shore region - that we can build our cast around," said Stuart Cresswell. "We've had some successful workshop sessions in New Glasgow and Pictou and there's a lot of talented young people out there. We're getting so much support from the wider community too, it's fantastic."

The story centres around a young autistic boy with a rare talent for the card game solitaire. He's a misfit at school and doesn't help himself by falling in love with an unattainable girlfriend of the school sports hero.

" 'The only game in town' is really unique," said Bowles. "I was drawn to the project because I found it really funny, I never saw anything like this before and I was immediately attracted to it. A lot of the humour I like is in it."

The team are looking to hold a number of workshops over the coming months, to find the right young people to play alongside some established and well-known adult actors. The producers want to showcase young talent and will adapt the script and create new characters to suit any good young actors that show up.

The next meeting will be at Tatamagouche Elementary on July 16 at 6 p.m.

Bowles has been impressed by the commitment shown by the people of the north shore thus far. "It's a perfect example of a community being able to come together and look at our young talent. I think we're going to have a really good time."

"It's a really lovely piece and I'm really excited to be a part of it."
