A 41-year-old Amherst man is facing an arson charge following a house fire on Minto Street early Tuesday.

AMHERST – Amherst Police have charged a 41-year-old Amherst male with arson in relation to a house fire that occurred on Minto Street early Tuesday.

Members of the Amherst Fire and Police Departments responded to the Minto Street residence at approximately 8:25 a.m. after receiving reports of a fully engulfed structure fire.

No one was home at the time of the fire and no injuries were reported. There was significant damage to the residence.

Investigators at the scene determined that the fire had been deliberately set.

The male was arrested on Wednesday evening and was held in custody to appear in Amherst Provincial Court this at 9:30 a.m.
