Classic cars will be in the spotlight on Sunday when the Cumberland Car Club hosts its 23rd show and shine at the Robb Centennial Complex.
AMHERST – Countless classic cars will takeover the Robb Centennial Complex on Sunday as the Cumberland Car Club hosts its 23rd Annual Amherst Show & Shine.
There’ll be street rods, antiques, tuners and special interest vehicles as well as the Maritimes biggest showing of pre-1940s original vehicles.
“There’s a club that does a circuit around the region and they’ll be coming to Amherst for the show,” club president Gordon Brown said. “There will be a lot of pre-war vehicles in Amherst for the show.”
The club president said he’s looking forward to seeing a lot of tuner cars as well. Tuners are vehicles that have been modified to get the best possible performance from a base motor vehicle.
The show will also feature antique tractors and farm machinery as well as motorcycles.
Brown said most vehicles will have their hoods up so people can check out the engines.
He also expects most of the club’s 38 or so members will have entries in the show.
“There are a lot of classic and antique vehicles in Cumberland County alone and we’re expecting quite a few others from elsewhere in Nova Scotia as well as from New Brunswick and Prince Edward Island.”
Last year, there were more than 200 entries in the show and Brown is confident that number will be met or exceeded Sunday if the weather is good.
Events kickoff with registration at 9 a.m. with the show running until after 2 p.m. with awards being presented around 3 p.m. Along with a number of smaller awards, there will be the mayor’s award, the president’s award and the fan’s choice award.
Admission to the grounds is $2 per person or $5 for a family, while show participants are asked to make a donation.
There will also be music from the 50s, 60s, and 70s.
The car club is also continuing with its Cruises at Kent Building Supplies every Thursday until September from 7 to 8:30 p.m.
