AMHERST – The Maltby Group of Amherst announced this week they have purchased Home Again Drycleaning located on South Albion Street.
The dry cleaning and tailoring operation will operate under the new name of
Holmes & Maltby Cleaners. The operation is currently undergoing a major renovation and upgrades.
Holmes Drycleaners and Home Again Drycleaners, founded in 1962 by Gordon Holmes, has operated continuously as a dry cleaning and tailoring operation by Holmes and his daughter Elizabeth Holmes Hickey. For many years the facility operated the popular Once Again Sports owned by late Bill Hickey.
The building is now receiving a complete renovation to house an expanded dry and wet cleaning as well as a newly renovated retail space.
Once Again Sports will reopen in the newly renovated space. It will house a modern skate sharpening operation as well as a Fresh Gear cleaning operation and specialty sport store. The company plans to expanded store operations running by June 1 to include a major brand bicycle line, new and used sporting gear, and specialized sporting needs.
Once again Sports is a member of the Maximum Edge skate sharpening franchise, which is recognized as a leading trainer to professional hockey equipment trainers in North America. All skate sharpening staff will be trained under their program. In addition the company will operate the Fresh Gear franchise, which has specialized ozone cleaning equipment in house for hockey, sports, construction and fire clothing and gear. The cleaning and tailoring operation will see an expanded capacity over the next year in dry cleaning, wet cleaning and tailoring services to the retail and commercial sectors.
Liz Hickey and the current staff will remain employed with the operation. Chris Maltby will manage the operations. Chris is an Amherst native, graduate of Saint Mary's University and was employed previously with CIBC in Halifax and Truro. He has attended both the Maximum Edge equipment training program in Ontario and the American Institute of Dry cleaning training program in Baltimore Maryland.
