Snow forces school cancellations in Cumberland County

Poor road conditions behind closures

Close to 10 cm of snow fell overnight resulting in the closure of schools across the Chignecto-Central Regional School Board. CAN-U classes and Maggie’s Place programs were also cancelled for the day while the Cumberland County Transportation Society did not put its buses on the road.

For the third consecutive Wednesday snow fell across Cumberland County with 10 cm falling overnight into Thursday.

AMHERST – Another Wednesday and more snow.

Close to 10 cm of snow fell across Cumberland County on Wednesday and into Thursday forcing the cancellation of classes at schools across the region.

It's the third consecutive Wednesday that snow has fallen on the northern part of the province, although again it was Halifax that bore the brunt of the latest bruch with winter.

All schools in the Chignecto-Central Regional School Board were cancelled because of road conditions while the Tantramar Senior's College in Amherst was also closed, as was GOVRC programming in Springhill.

Maggie's Place programming was cancelled for the day.

The Cumberland County Transportation Society's buses did not hit the road on Thursday, and CAN-U's classes were cancelled.

Better weather is forecast for the next several days.
