Police investigating prison stabbing

The prison in Springhill is in its second lockdown in a month following the violent assault of an inmate on Monday night.

SPRINGHILL – The Springhill Police Service and Correctional Service of Canada are conducting a joint investigation following a stabbing at Springhill Institution on January 10.

A 23 year-old federal inmate was stabbed repeatedly, requiring a medical transfer to an outside hospital. The incident occurred during suppertime at the prison.

The victim’s injuries were determined to be serious but not life threatening.

At this time, charges of aggravated assault, assault with a weapon, possession of a weapon dangerous are pending against two federal inmates at the institution.
