AMHERST – A 26-year-old woman charged with sleeping with her brother has pleaded not guilty to a charge of incest.

The woman appeared before Judge Raymond Morse on Monday with her counsel, Robert Moores.

Moores entered the not guilty plea on his client’s behalf, and also elected the jury be tried in provincial court as opposed to Supreme.

The woman’s identity, as well as her brother’s, is protected by a ban on publication.

The 19-year-old brother also appeared Monday morning, however has not yet entered a plea to the charge of incest, as well as one count each of assault on the sister and breaking her glasses.

He has made an application to Nova Scotia Legal Aid, and Andy Melvin said the case has been assigned to him.

The incest charge is alleged to have occurred between Feb. 17, 2010 to the same date in 2011 for both accused, and the brother’s additional two charges stem from alleged incidents on Feb. 17, 2011.

He will return to provincial court on July 25 at 9:30 a.m., while she will return for trial on Nov. 16 at 9:30 a.m.
