MacKinnon given probation

An Amherst woman was given a six-month probation period after pleading guilty to stealing a box of chairs.

Ruby Anne MacKinnon is also prohibited from entering any store owned by the Hudson's Bay Company, both through her probation and through the company itself.

MacKinnon agreed to the statement of facts that said she was observed at the Zellers store in Amherst.

She was seen putting a box of folding chairs in a cart before proceeding to the cash.

In the facts outlined by the Crown, MacKinnon then took a package of batteries off a shelf and paid for them.

When the cashier asked if she had already paid for the chairs, MacKinnon replied that she had and left the store.

The box of chairs was recovered.
