AMHERST – You don’t have to be a sharpshooter to have a chance to win a travel prize package, which includes a $500 travel voucher, luggage and other travel items.
All you need is $20.
“You don’t have to be here to win, so if you want to support it by buying a ticket you still get your name in for the draw,” said Lorraine Ramsay, manager at Dooly’s in Amherst.
But if you want to make the best of that $20 and have a good time, go to Dooly’s next Friday night.
Cues for Kids starts at 8:30 p.m. and runs until midnight.
Tickets are $20, and that gets you a beverage, pizza, unlimited pool, live entertainment, and a chance to win a trip.
There will also be a silent auction.
“This year we hope to raise $3,000,” said Jeff MacNeil, manager of development at the YMCA of Cumberland.
This is the fourth year Cues for Kids had raised money for the YMCA of Cumberland’s Strong Kids Campaign.
Last year’s event raised $2,600.
Cues for Kids continues next Saturday with a pool tournament.
“It’s $30 a team, and you play most of the day,” said Ramsay.
The pool tournament is scotch doubles. Registration is at 12:30 p.m., and the start time is 1 p.m.
The winner receives 30 hours of free pool, second place gets 15 hours, and third place gets 10 hours.
“It’s per-person, not per team, so, essentially, the first-place winner gets 60 hours,” said Ramsay.
“All the funds from both events go to the YMCA of Cumberland Strong Kids Campaign, which is our annual campaign that helps offset a lot of our programming at the YMCA,” said MacNeil. “It provides subsidized memberships for youth, teams, children, families, swimming lesson subsidies, and team leadership programs.”
Last year’s annual campaign raised $62,000, and the goal for this year’s campaign, for 2017-2018, is $85,000.
Last year the YMCA of Cumberland provided $93,690 in financial assistance to community residents, $40,470 of which was for participants under 18 years of age.
Ticket for Cues for Kids can be purchased the YMCA or at Dooly’s.
