Break-and-enters were also plentiful, as were accidents and lots of speeders.
In total there were 117 calls from Sept. 18 to 25. Following are some highlights from the week:
-- Sept. 18 at 11:22 a.m. at Waldec. Police charged a 29-year-old man with speeding on Highway 101 at Waldec. If found guilty he will pay a fine of $237.50. There were 10 other speeding violations during the week in Annapolis County.
-- Sept. 19 at 8:02 a.m. at South Farmington. Police were called to assist with pigs that had gotten loose and were on the road. The police contacted the local animal control officer who attended and helped round up the pigs.
-- Sept. 19 at 11 p.m. at Cornwallis Park. Police received a complaint of a break-and-enter, possibly in progress. The caller reported hearing noises and said a window on the side of the house that is usually not open was open. Police went to the scene to find all the doors locked. Police entered and check the house. It was apparent the house was vacant for quite some time. Animal feces were all over the house. It was apparent nobody was in the house.
-- Sept. 20 at 4:52 p.m. at Clementsport. Police received a report of a break-and-enter. Police went to the scene and were shown a lock that appeared to have been ripped off an outbuilding. The complainant said nothing appeared to be missing. Police conducted neighbourhood checks which were negative.
-- Sept. 20 at 11:30 p.m. at Round Hill. Police were called to the scene of a 911 domestic assault. Police took a 23-year-old man into custody. He has been charged with assault, assault with a weapon, assault causing bodily harm, and unsafe storage of a firearm. He was held over night and released on conditions and will attend court at a later date.
-- Sept. 21 at 1:49 a.m. at Hillsburn. Police responded to a call that came in as a domestic assault on Shore Road. A 25-year-old woman has been charged with assault and will appear in court at a later date.
-- Sept. 22 at 10:19 a.m. at Carleton Corner. Police received a complaint of a theft of cheques from a business. Some of the cheques had been filled out and cashed in Kings County. The remainder of the cheques have had a stop-payment put on them by the bank. Kingston RCMP and Kentville PD are assisting with the investigation.
-- Sept. 22 at 3:39 p.m. at Middleton. A person dropped off a wallet at the Middleton detachment. The wallet, that had been left at a business, contained money and a variety if ID cards. Police have made attempts to contact the owner but have been unsuccessful. Police were able to contact the credit card security unit who confirmed that the credit card had already been cancelled. They too will attempt to contact the card owner to advise the police have his wallet.
-- Sept. 22 at 6:05 p.m. at Clementsport. Police were called to a complaint of assault. After going to the location, police learned of a forcible confinement. Police arrested and charged a 40-year-old man with forcible confinement, assault, unsafe storage of firearms, and uttering threats. He was released on conditions and will appear in court on Nov. 27.
-- Sept. 23 at 2:47 p.m. at Middleton. Police were called to retrieve a lost driver’s license that had been left at a business in Middleton. RCMP members went to the address on the license and returned it to its owner.
-- Sept. 23 at 5:01 p.m. at Wilmot. Police received a report of a lost wallet. The complainant reported they had been at a number of yard sales during the day and left the wallet at one of the stops. The wallet is described as a black, folding, plastic wallet with cash, IDs, and cheques inside. If anyone finds it they can contact RCMP.
-- Sept. 23 at 5:54 p.m. at Parkers Cove. Police responded to a 911 domestic assault. Police went to the scene and arrested a 33-year-old man. The man was held in custody and charged with assault, assault with a weapon, and failing to comply with a probation order.
-- Sept. 23 at 6:58 p.m. at Brickton. Police were called to a vehicle on fire. Middleton fire also attended. There were no injuries and no collision. It appeared to be an electrical issue with the vehicle which had to be towed.
-- Sept. 24 at 12:44 p.m. at Carleton Corner. Police receive a complaint of a silver Honda tailgating vehicles, speeding, and passing unsafely heading westbound on Highway 101. The vehicle was located in Digby County but the complainant did not want to go to court. Police talked with the driver about the complaint. The driver was a 21-year-old female.
-- Sept. 24 at 6:21 p.m. at Carleton Corner. Police were called to a motor vehicle collision with injuries. The driver said she drifted to the right and over-corrected which caused the Sea-Doo they were towing to hit the ditch, become airborne, pulling their jeep to the side of the road hitting a culvert which cause the jeep to flip – and land upright in the ditch. Both the driver and passenger were cleared by EHS. The vehicles were towed.
-- Sept. 24 at 6:52 p.m. in Annapolis County. Police were called to speak to a youth about setting grass fires. Police talked with the child and explained to him the consequences of a fire getting out of control. The child’s mother, who had called police, was also involved in the conversation.
-- Sept. 25 at 8:24 p.m. at Middleton. Police received a report of a vehicle hitting a deer. The motor vehicle was a dirt bike. Police responded to find the driver, 22-year-old man, being treated by EHS. There was damage to the dirt bike.
