Springhill Lions talking to students about drug dangers

Notes from the Springhill Lions Club

This month Lions will be going to both elementary schools to talk about the drug awareness poster contest.

Each year, the club has this contest with cash prizes and certificates awarded. This is a Lions youth outreach program and its mandate is to focus and guide youth in understanding the effects of misused drugs and alcohol.

The program demonstrates that Lions care enough to become involved in putting emphasis on drug prevention and positive youth development.

Through the eyes of our children in this poster contest, we will get a better understanding of how they think about the misuse of drugs and alcohol.

The two first place winners from the Grade 4, 5, 6 category will advance to the Lions district level for judging the end of April.

On Saturday, Feb. 3 several Lions will be attending the district winter cabinet meeting in Windsor.

Lions representing 69 clubs in the province will be meeting and reporting on what their club has been doing and how each of the clubs are doing with our district theme this year which is random acts of kindness.

Our club has decided to do a one-night accommodation, movie theatre tickets and dinner for a family of four as a “We Care” giveaway in honour of Valentine’s Day and our district theme of random acts of kindness.
