Hi again from beautiful downtown New Salem.
This past Friday was a very sad sight and I knew it had to happen sooner or later, but later - as in February - would have been nicer. I'm talking about snow; it is just to soon and hopefully it will go away and not make an appearance for a while longer.
On Saturday I attended the Ladies Night Out that was held at the fire hall. It was a fabulous evening with wonderful people, great food and awesome entertainment. I would like to say a big thank you to the ladies that planned this event. You all did an awesome job. The event raised almost $2,000 for the Advocate school sports program. A great job was done by everyone.
On Wednesday, Nov. 26 the monthly A.D.D.A. meeting will be held at the log building at 7 p.m.
On Friday, Nov. 28 Spencer's Island Bingo will be held at the Advocate Fire Hall at 7 p.m. Bring a friend and come out for an evening of fun.
On Saturday, Nov. 29 the annual Christmas market will be held at the log building on Mills Road from 9 a.m. to noon. Come on out and see what Christmas goodies you can find or maybe a Christmas present or two.
December is Food For Fines month, so if you have fines at the library you can bring in an item of non-perishable food for each fine and they will be forgiven.
On Wednesday, Dec. 3 I will have cookies that I made at the Advocate library to celebrate “12 Days of Cookies” that is happening at the Cumberland Public Library. So come on in that day and try a cookie or two and let us know what you think.
On Thursday, Dec. 4 the monthly meeting of the Advocate Volunteer Fire Brigade will be held at 7 p.m. at the fire hall. New members are always welcome.
On Saturday, Dec. 6 the annual community Christmas party will be at the log building. It will be after supper and I will let you know the time next week.
On Tuesday, Dec. 9 the annual Chignecto Manor Christmas party will be at 7 p.m. Everyone is welcome.
On Tuesday, Dec. 16 the annual Advocate school Christmas soncert will take place at 7 p.m.
On Wednesday, Dec. 24 the annual Christmas Eve service will be held at the Spencer's Island Church at 4 p.m.
The new revised edition of "Away Down Shore" by Clemm Larsen is now available. Clemm is a local author, raised in Apple River and has a keen interest in history and genealogy, which led him to write this book. The book consists of a history of the Cape Chignecto, Cumberland County, Nova Scotia villages - West Apple River, East Apple River, Birch Cove, New Salem and Sand River. Anyone interested in purchasing this book can contact Debbie Fillmore. A donation of each book sold will be given to the recreation therapy department at Bayview Memorial Health Centre.
The Advocate United Church services for the winter will now be at Chignecto Manor at 8:30 a.m.
That's it for this week. Have a great week, everyone, and enjoy your family and friends.
