Shelter Tales with Barnaby

Hey y’all this is Barnaby for the Lillian Allbon Cumberland County Animal Shelter on Smith Road.

The Amherst Winter Carnival was a huge success. The shelter was happy to be a part of two events. The chocolate and wine tasting event held Friday, Feb. 16 at the Apothic Inn featured the shelter as it’s designated charity for the night. We raised $200 and we thank Rhonda Kelly for the lovely venue and everyone who attended that night.

The Doggie Social that was held on Sunday, Feb. 18 at the Robb’s off-leash dog park was also a huge success. We reconnected with so many former shelter dogs there and it made us so happy to see them all healthy, happy and ready to play!

Thank you to Tim Horton’s for providing us with hot chocolate and tim bits, Bliss Cafe for the amazing dog cake, and Dog To Divas for bringing chili and handing out treat bags. Thank you to CUPE Local 8920 for the generous donation of $200. We appreciate your kindness.

The shelter is looking for folks interested in being on the shelter board of directors for the 2018/2019 term. If you have time and talent to spare and can be an active member.

Please send a short biography with your information and why you would like to be a part of the shelter board to LASHELTER@live.com.

Members are voted on in March at our annual general meeting.

Pet of the week is Peps. Peps is a four-year-old neutered male cat. He is orange and white and oh so beautiful and would make a lovely pet. For more information call us at 902-661-PAWS or visit us on Smith Road. We are open every day to the public from 1 to 4 p.m.

That's all for now, keep your tail in the air and your heart open wide and don't forget us here at the LA Animal Shelter...we are the little shelter with the big heart.

Shelter Tales appears bi-weekly in the Amherst News.
