Hello from beautiful downtown New Salem

On Friday, Aug. 31 Spencer’s Island Bingo will be held at the Advocate Fire Hall at 7 p.m. Come out for an evening of fun!

On Saturday, Sept. 8 Open Mic will be at the Advocate Fire Hall beginning at 7 p.m.

Bring your voice, instrument or story for an evening of music and fun. There will be a 50/50 draw and canteen.

There will be a community luncheon at the Log Building on Mills Road at Noon.

On the menu is a roast beef dinner with gravy, mashed potatoes, veggies, blueberry desserts, coffee and tea.

Another community luncheon is set for Tuesday, Sept. 24. The menu will feature a turkey dinner with all the trimmings, rolls, pies, tea and coffee.

Please call Gina Neves at 902-392-2012 to let her know if you will be attending and to make sure there will be enough food.

Cost is $12 and it is sponsored by the Advocate and District Development Association.

A community chorus has been started with practices being held in the Advocate United Church with choir director Elizabeth MacLeod.

This will be on Tuesday evenings at 7 p.m. Anyone interested in singing is welcome. Please pass the message on to everyone. This is a community chorus, not a church choir!

The Downshore Market is now open for the season at the Log Building on Mills Road on Saturday mornings from 9 a.m. to noon. Come and see what the sellers have to offer or have a coffee or tea and meet an old or new friend, while the Spencer's Island Craft and Farmer's Market is open from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Spencer's Island Community Hall on Sunday.s

Trinity United, in Parrsboro, would not be having services this summer, but would attend Port Greville's services at 9:45 a.m. at Grace United.

The following are dates, and who will be our pulpit supply. Times are 8:30 a.m. at Advocate United and 9:45 a.m. at Grace United in Port Greville unless otherwise stated.

The Meals on Wheels program that operates from the Bayview Health Center is seeing an increase in customers and they now need more volunteers to deliver meals on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays.

If you can help with deliveries or would like to receive this service yourself, please call the health centre at 902-392-5400: the kitchen at extension 6035 or the office extension 5402.
