New Salem news with Terry Gulliver

Hello from beautiful downtown New Salem

If you’re looking for something to do on these winter days, you can always come to the Advocate Library or one of our other libraries in the county.

We all have computers that are free to use, we have snow shoes that you can borrow, we have puzzles that you can do there or borrow to take home and do, we also have games for you or families can play.

We have books, books on CD, magazines, large print books, and we have movies for every age possible that can borrow for a week and TV series that you can borrow for three weeks at a time.

So come check us out. We also offer children’s programs and adult programs every month and It’s all free and you probably will have a good time!

On Saturday, Feb. 17 a very successful scallop supper was held at the Advocate Fire Hall. Proceeds were $1,450 and the 50/50 was $135. Clifford Hazel was the lucky winner.

Thank you everyone for your continued support and patience. Thank you to the fishermen for their generous donation of scallops and thanks to Heather, Glenda and Berna for the delicious rolls and the ladies Auxiliary for the pies.

The Evil Genius Club at the Advocate Library will be Feb. 22 from 3 to 4:30 p.m.

Drop by to build Lego masterpieces and create wearable art with the library’s button maker!

On Saturday, Feb. 24, open mic will be at the Advocate Fire Hall beginning at 7 p.m.

Bring your voice, instrument, a joke or story for an evening of music and fun. There will be a 50/50 draw and canteen. If you wish to be part of a house band please let them know when you get there.

On Friday, March 2 Spencer's Island Bingo will be held at the Advocate Fire Hall at 7 p.m. Come on out for an evening of fun.

The Advocate United Church Service are now being held at Chignecto Manor at 8:30 a.m. unless otherwise notified.

The Meals on Wheels program that operates from the Bayview Health Center is seeing an increase in customers and they now need more volunteers to deliver meals on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays.

If you can help with deliveries or would like to receive this service yourself, please call the health centre at 902-392-5400: the kitchen at extension 6035 or the office extension 5402.
