Shelter Tales with Barnaby

Hey y'all Barnaby here for the Lillian Allbon Animal Cumberland County Shelter on Smith Road.

Thanks to employees from Emmerson Packaging for making a family day out of cleaning up the shelter grounds and grooming the Joan Bennett Christie Memorial Trail.
Shelter dog Panda got in on the fun and loved the attention of playing with the kids and supervising the work.
We thank the good folks at Emmerson Packaging for taking the time to do this much-needed work.
The Cumberland Pet Expo at Park Your Paws was a huge success. This was a benefit for the shelter and we thank them for being so generous. Another event for the shelter that was a success was the Two Fools Productions dance with Monkey's Uncle at the Wandlyn on Saturday night.
The band was amazing and the dance floor was full all night. Thanks to everyone who came out to party and help our furbabies!
The Cumberland Safe Pet Program made the news this week! The CBC reported on the program that helps women entering Autumn House find a safe temporary location for their pets.
Pets are often harmed in homes where women and children are being abused. And many women delay leaving an abusive partner because they don't want to leave their cat or dog behind.
The LA Animal Shelter and the Amherst Veterinary Hospital have partnered with Autumn House to be able to assist women through this important program.
For information on being a foster for the shelter, for the Safe Pet program or for both, call Tara at the shelter at 902 661 PAWS.
Until next time keep your tail in the air and your heart open wide and don't forget us here at the LA Animal Shelter. The little shelter with the big heart.

Shelter Tales appears every two weeks in the Amherst News.
