The Back Fence with Linda Baker

Published on February 19, 2014

The East Mapleton-Leamington Sewing Circle met at the home of Betty Harrison, Leamington, on Feb. 3, 2014, with ten members present.

We were pleased to have Dorothy Harrison join our group. President Ruth Foster conducted the meeting and thanked Betty for her hospitality. Verses of scripture were read by

Betty. This being the 75th Anniversary of the Sewing Circle, Linda Baker, secretary, read notes from the 1939 minute book when her grandmother, the late Ivah (Mrs. John) Winters was the first secretary. Treasurer Marlene Millard, presented the 2013 year-end financial report. Marlene also reported a reasonable balance on hand. January was to have been Memorial Month, but due to storm conditions, it was postponed to Feb. Memorial donations were

made in memory of loved ones.

It being our 75th Anniversary, group pictures were taken. A time of fellowship was enjoyed over delicious refreshments prepared by hostess Betty and Nellie Gilroy. Betty was pleasantly surprised when Nellie presented her with a nicely decorated birthday cake. Lucky prizes went to Lorna Crowe, Jeanette Thompson and Ruth. Mystery parcel went to Dorothy Lavers. Our next meeting will be Mar. 3 with Ruth Foster, Springhill. Project: Variety Auction.

Belated Happy Birthday greetings go out to Cecil V. Brown, Mapleton. Thought for the day: If you have been of service, if you have glimpsed more of the nature and essence of ultimate good, if you are inspired to reach wide horizons of thought and action, if you are at peace with yourself, it has been a successful day.

Until next time, thank you for joining me here on my country road.
