RUSAGONIS, N.B. - Residents of Rusagonis celebrated the 100th anniversary of the province's second-oldest covered bridge with several events over the weekend.
The festivities for the Patrick Owens Covered Bridge, which began Aug. 22, wrapped up on Sunday.
The festival included concerts, a community supper on the bridge and the display of historical exhibits at several venues throughout Rusagonis.
It was paid for with a $30,000 grant from the Canadian Heritage Building Communities program.
Last year the bridge was badly damaged when truck drivers, not paying attention to the bridge's height, drove through it and struck many of the overhead beams.
New Brunswick's Department of Transportation invested $80,000 in renovations to the bridge, including the construction of height beams to prevent a similar incident from happening.
