TRURO - Joseph Gallant is very aware that the next Canada Winter Games are being held in Nova Scotia in 2011 and the young athlete wants to be apart of them.
The Colchester Yawara Judo Club member took an important step toward that goal this past weekend, winning gold in the under 66 kg class at the Halifax Invitational Judo Tournament. For an aspiring winter games athlete, every tournament and training camp is important and Gallant knows that he has to make his mark provincially to be considered for the team.
His result highlighted a CYJC performance that also saw gold medals going to Max and Mari Budgey, silver to Dalton McCully and bronze to first-time participant Olivia MacPhee. Brendan Donovan just missed the medals, finishing fourth as did first-time competitor Liam Morrison.
