AMHERST - Bodies will be flipping, flying and twisting at Amherst Regional High School gymnasium this weekend as the Amherst Aerials Gymnastics Club hosts its seventh annual March Break Invitational.
"We'll have 250 girls competing in bars, beam, floor and vault," said Aerials coach Michelle Landry. "The athletes are coming from throughout the Maritimes."
Girls from as far away as Cape Breton, the Annapolis Valley, P.E.I., and Woodstock, N.B., will come to compete at the meet.
"We had a waiting list for competitors but some girls dropped out, so we managed to get everybody off the list," added Landry.
There will be three sessions Saturday, with competition beginning at 7 a.m.
Awards ceremonies for each session will take place at 11 a.m., 4 p.m., and 8:45 p.m.
On Sunday there will be two sessions.
Competition begins at 8:30 a.m., with awards being presented at noon and 4 p.m.
Gymnasts age six and older will compete in the event.
"We also have some national competitors coming Saturday afternoon," added Landry.
This is one of the final events of the year for the gymnasts. Their next big event will be the provincials April 3-5 in Lower Sackville.
"Most of our girls have qualified for the provincials," added Landry.
