Ardens defeat Estevan
The Swift Current Comp. Ardens opened their defense of three consecutive Moose Jaw High School Soccer League championships with a pair of wins in Moose Jaw on Saturday.
The Ardens got off to a good start with a 3-0 shutout of the rival Weyburn Eagles in a rematch of last year’s championship final. League all-time leading scorer Cassidy Andres scored all three goals and Cassandra Furey-Cameron earned the shutout with a strong outing in goal. Fullback Andrea Erlandson and rookie Kirstie Klevgaard picked up assists in the win.
The floodgates opened in the second contest when the Ardens got goals from eight different players in a 14-1 drubbing of Estevan.
Three grade nine rookies netted their first career goals, led by Santana Gowan, who found the net four times and added an assist. Klevgaard added a hat trick from the midfield and Jade Addai also scored her first two career goals.
Andres morphed into a playmaker with five assists to go along with her 62nd goal in the Moose Jaw League.
Tara Kirkpatrick, Kelsey Therrien, Emilie Erlandson, and Jessica Driver all added single markers. Therrien and Larisa Markewich each had a pair of assists, while Kirkpatrick, Andrea Erlandson, and Furey-Cameron all added singles.
Britney Cleaveley, Addai, Kaylee Kyle, Gowan, and Therrien shared the win in goal.
The Ardens will host their first home game Thursday when the Moose Jaw Central Cyclones visit Irwin School Field at 4:30 p.m.
